Carly Allen

Carly started with Global Traveler in 2010 and, after a hiatus to join the private jet industry, returned to GT in 2016. She has a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication and Marketing from San Francisco State University. During her time at university, she got the bug for sales and marketing while working for BMW Group North America, which led nicely into her career at Global Traveler. She has traveled to Asia twice annually to visit partners from Seoul to Singapore since 2010, and annually to Mexico City, Seattle and Denver. Her leisure travels have taken her to the beaches of Hawai’i and Tahiti, along with exploring the wineries of Napa Valley and crabbing in Galveston, Texas. Allen enjoys spending time with her sisters (she is a triplet — all girls!) and family in Los Angeles, reading as many books as possible and attending spin class to help her clear her mind.

Hotel Zeppelin, San Francisco

I lived in San Francisco during college so coming to visit the city and see all the changes was exciting. The Hotel Zeppelin was built in a once slightly shabby area that has since come alive with new hotels and restaurants for travelers looking for something different. We arrived at noon on a Friday afternoon and were immediately greeted by the hotel staff at the front desk. They were able to accommodate an early check-in, completed in just a few minutes. The lobby is as hip as the hotel name sounds, but it also offered a cozy atmosphere, with a roaring fire and comfy couches and chairs in the lounge area. Unique wall art, statues and lighting remind you of the cool factor.

Discover Greece’s Tower Towns: A Journey Through History

Greece's tower towns offer a captivating blend of history, architecture and stunning landscapes that make them perfect for curious travelers. These towns, particularly found in the Mani region of the Peloponnese, are defined by stone towers built during the medieval period. Constructed for both defense and as symbols of family pride, the towers stand as a testament to the region's turbulent history and its residents’ resilience.

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong

I took a taxi from Hong Kong International Airport on a warm Sunday afternoon, traffic was light, taking only about 30 minutes to the welcoming drive of the International Commerce Centre driveway. The hotel is located on the top floors of the towering building in Kowloon, giving a feel of class, business and expectation upon arrival. Valets personally greet you at the drive and escort you to the elevator, where you’re directed to the 103rd floor. The vast lobby opens into dark marble, wood and soft lighting and is bustling with guests. As I was staying in a club suite room I was directed to the club lounge on the 116th floor, where I was seated next to the large windows and offered tea during check-in. It was only 10 a.m., but they were able to accommodate me.
