Situated in the East Habor of Berlin’s River Spree sits what might be the most unusual nightclub in all of Berlin. The Badeschiff, or “bathing ship,” is an enormous floating pool, fashioned out of an old retired barge.
Designer Susanne built the masterpiece in 2004, allowing Berliners to enjoy the amazing natural beauty of the river without having to worry about its unsanitary water and pollution. Since its inception, it has become one of the hottest late-night spots in the city’s center.
For just €7, visitors have access to the open-air bar, numerous platforms with deck chairs and real sand and hammocks strewn across the wooden footbridge. The pool itself is six feet deep and about the length of a football field. Its water is even heated to 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celsius). When cold weather or rain comes, domes are set up to cover the pool and each platform.
The area is open from 8 a.m. to midnight. During the day, guests can relax and soak up the warm sun. At nightfall, DJs might spin records and showcase their skills, or locals might perform their live music.
The only restriction is visitors cannot bring in their own beverages from the outside, alcoholic or otherwise.
