Bar Harbor Celebrates Its Silliest Tradition

On Saturday, Nov. 8, Bar Harbor, Maine, residents and visitors will rise early for the area’s 20th Annual Early Bird Pajama Sale. Local shops open at 6 a.m. to offer some of the best sales of the season, with bigger discounts offered to those wearing pajamas. Check out a full list of participating retailers; sales run from 6–9 a.m.

 

The fun doesn’t end, though. The bed and pajama parade down Main Street begins at 10 a.m., followed by the 8th Annual Bed Races. Everyone is welcome to participate, with teams of five racing decorated, handmade beds on wheels in two heats, competing for a $500 cash prize and a trophy. Prizes are also bestowed for second place and most creative.
