New to Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties neighborhood, Bardot Café is a European-influenced eatery offering a mix of small and large plates, unique tartines and sandwiches in a cozy spot featuring a beautiful walnut bar, silver tin ceiling and warm burgundy wallpaper.
From the menu of petits, I opted to start dinner with the octopus dish, served with salsa verde, peanut potatoes and calabrian chilis, and the duck crepe, boasting oyster mushrooms and caramelized grapes. Both dishes were melt-in-my-mouth delicious; the octopus was perfectly crispy and salty, while the delectable duck paired perfectly with the sweet grapes and slightly salty mushrooms.
For dinner, I chose to try the popular Bardot burger, topped with caramelized onions, lettuce and melty cheese. The meat was a little bit too pink and salty for me, and I wish I tried the Spaghettini Noir dish, with squid, chorizo and corn, or the Duck Cassoulet, featuring sausage, kale and tarragon mustard cream.
Though the eatery offers a selection of unique cocktails and craft beers, I opted to sip water while dining, and was too full to try dessert, though the cocoa banana bread with sweet cream ice cream, caramel, fudge and coconut looked delicious.
