West Africa is home to some great beaches and The Gambia is no exception.
It might only have 80 kilometers of coastline, but The Gambia manages to pack in some amazing stretches of sand. Think palms, nature reserves and traditional villages, all in an easily accessible area.
Kotu
Top of the list for many people is Kotu, a wide beach with palm trees and lagoons nearby. Beach bars abound, and the 1.24-mile beach is home to a number of hotels. There is also the Kotu Stream to explore, where mangroves house a huge number of birds.
Kololi
Kololi is known as a place to party, with resort hotels, restaurants and music bars. This former fishing village has been drawing visitors since the 1980s, and the Bijilo Forest Park adds another reason to make the trip.
Cape Point
Cape Point sits near the town of Bakau and splits two distinct beaches. The first is a working fishing beach, and the second is a quiet stretch of sand for relaxing. It’s more laidback than some nearby resorts and draws plenty of locals.
Batukunku Beach
Batukunku Beach is another frequent entrant on these lists, and it sits near the village of Tanji. The sunsets are incredible here, and the Tanji Bird Reserve is a great spot for bird watching.
