During all of the hubbub of the holidays, it’s nice to get away with your significant other. Winter can be a spectacularly romantic season and you’ll find there are lots of destinations where you can make the most of a few days’ escape. Here are some of our favorites for cuddling up and enjoying a respite from the season.
Aspen, Colo.
Whether you want to hit the ski slopes or get toasty by a roaring fire, you can do both in Aspen. The area offers some great luxury accommodations, too. Try the St. Regis Aspen Resort, where you can enjoy superb couples’ spa treatments before booking the Krabloonik Fine Dining & Dogsledding experience, which includes a gourmet menu, paired wines and a dog sled tour through the nearby mountains.
Alaska
Alaska’s dramatic landscape and gorgeous wilderness is a great place to get lost with your loved one. Winter is the perfect time to view the Northern Lights, take a helicopter tour around Denali and relax in the natural hot springs. Try “roughing it” in one of the luxury cabins at Ultima Thule Lodge.
Prague
Easily one of the most romantic cities in Europe (after Paris, of course), Prague really ups the ante during winter. Enjoy the traditional Christmas markets and snowy scenery, or, if you’re a bit tired of the holiday spirit, check out the many museums, visit one of the multiple ice skating rinks or simply explore the snowy city alongside your favorite person.
Lapland, Finland
Always wanted to ride in a reindeer-drawn sleigh? Here’s your chance. Lapland is Finland’s northernmost region and home to all things winter. Pay a visit to the multiple snow and ice sculpture villages, discover an amethyst mine or enjoy the myriad of active options. Skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and more — they’ve got it all.
