lies in the Panama City metro area and is a popular layover spot for travelers flying in and out of the country. Its small area means you might have to step slightly outside the city limits to find a good meal, but there are a few great options nearby.
Nación Sushi is hidden inside the MetroMall near the Tocumen International Airport. It’s a small, inconspicuous joint that offers surprisingly great rolls. If you’re looking for a cheap and tasty treat before catching a plane you’ll definitely want to check it out.
Caminito’s Parrillada Argentina
Caminito’s sits right near the border of Panama City and Tocumen. It offers some of the best empanadas in the area along with other typically Argentinian fare. The prices are a little high, so expect to throw down roughly $30 for a meal.
Dos Cucharas is quaint little sandwich shop located not far across the border into Panama City, making it the perfect choice for those waiting on a plane but who want to explore a little. It’s also renowned for its excellent dessert selections and coffee.
Let’s be honest — if you’re in Tocumen it’s likely because you’re stuck waiting on a plane. Tierra Firme is practically a Tocumen International institution at this point, as the longest-standing sit-down joint available. The Italian options on the menu are surprisingly delicious, as is the Panamanian beer.
