Scotland is known for its scenery and one of the best ways to see it is on a road trip. Here are some of the best routes.
One of the most famous trips is the Snow Roads Scenic Route, which covers 90 miles in the Cairngorms National Park. The spectacular route runs past ski centers, whisky distilleries and plenty of great pubs and restaurants.
Next up is the South West Coastal 300, which runs through Dumfries and Galloway as well as the southern part of Ayrshire. Look out for the ruin of Sweetheart Abbey and the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory.
For a longer drive, try the North Coast 500. This loop follows the tip of northern Scotland, from Inverness to Durness and John O’Groats. The scenery is spectacular and there are some great whisky distilleries along the way, too.
The North East 250 is another circular route that covers the Malt Whisky Trail as well as some great golf courses. You can tee off at Braemar Golf Club, visit the Glenlivet distillery and see amazing castles such as Ballindalloch and Balmoral.
If you want to take a historic drive, try the Argyll Coastal Route. From just north of Glasgow, this route winds north to Fort William along the coast.
