Rice and beans are something of a staple for travelers who don’t eat meat, but there are good vegetarian restaurants in Panama, too.
If you struggled to get a decent meal for some time, check out Veggie Moon in Panama City. It’s a bit overpriced compared to other restaurants nearby, but you’ll get good vegetarian dishes that go way beyond rice and beans.
Some people say Chinese restaurants are good options for vegetarians, so look for them wherever you are in Panama. Try Palacio Lung Fung or Golden Unicorn if you’re in the capital. Another good option is Matsuei, a Japanese place known for excellent vegetarian sushi.
Avatar, the Indian restaurant that also serves great wine, is a good option for veggies in Panama City, as is the buffet-style setup at El Jardin Vegetariano. Make sure you keep an eye out for Loving Hut , the counter-service chain that has branches in various locations around the country. They also do vegan dishes if that’s your thing.
Elsewhere in the country, Café del Mar in Bocas del Toro has an extensive menu with multiple vegetarian options. Nearby Capitan Caribe is also known for good vegetarian burritos.
