Bermuda is a relatively small island, and with a couple days it’s possible to explore it in its entirety. On the last night of a recent trip, my friends and I hopped on a ferry and headed to the tip of the island to the Royal Naval Dockyard, where we were told to try Bone Fish Bar & Grill (not associated with the chain restaurant here in the United States).
The ferry ride to that side of the island from Hamilton was lovely in the evening, with twinkling lights dotting the shoreline along the way.
The recommendation for Bone Fish came to us from a bartender who claimed it was one of the top spots for nightlife on the island and, while we were looking for a good drink and some live music, we were mostly in it for the food — which did not disappoint.
When cruise ships arrive in Bermuda, the Dockyard area is a lively scene, full of visitors and locals, but the evening we were there was a quieter one. It was a beautiful night, so we grabbed a table outside, where there was a lot of seating, an outdoor bar and a performance area for live music.
The restaurant offers a good wine menu and beer selection from local breweries. For appetizers, we ordered fish chowder, fried calamari, garlic bread and were tempted by shrimp and mango empanadas. The main menu is an eclectic mix with local island-inspired dishes, Asian favorites and some English classics.
For dinner, I had a delicious Thai chicken curry, and other dishes ordered included crab and shrimp ravioli in a homemade lobster bisque; shrimp fettuccini; and gnocchi with scallops and shrimp in a Pinot Grigio reduction.

For desert, we split a homemade rum cake, flavored with Gosling’s Black Seal rum, and rum raisin ice cream.
Unsurprisingly, the seafood at Bone Fish was exceptionally fresh, and the dishes were simple, but delicious. It was the perfect place to enjoy our last-night meal against the backdrop of the docked ships and harbor lights.
