There are a ton of quaint cafés to choose from in Manama, so it might be hard to see why anyone would want to wander into one so obviously crowded as Café Lilou. The truth is the atmosphere can get a little rambunctious at times with children and teenagers spilling out the door, but it’s not peace and quiet people come looking for — it’s the cakes.
The café serves up some delicious treats alongside Turkish coffee that’s just a tad above par for the area. It seemed as if they served actual meals as well, but I arrived during brunch and was only looking for a small bite and a place to relax. The décor is a little outdated and, to be honest, kind of tacky, but overall it was a pleasant experience.
I will say this place isn’t ideal for large groups, as most of the tables could seat two people at most. It’s located in part of a mall, so there’s a ton of stuff going on around you and it’s the perfect place to stop in the middle of a shopping spree.
The staff was incredibly friendly and fast, popping out coffee and desserts in minutes. If you’re ever in the area it’s definitely worth a peek.
