Nestled on a quiet street just one block from the central square, Café Lounge is a hidden gem for visitors to Guatemala’s second-largest city.
It’s worth taking a wander away from the chains which dominate the square to find Café Lounge. I was lured in by the smell of good coffee and the board of specials outside.5
For just $4, I was able to enjoy a chili burrito and a cup of coffee in the cozy environs of the family-run establishment. The coffee is sourced from local growers and expertly prepared by the team of baristas.
The burrito was well presented and the quality of the ingredients was far higher than the price would suggest. Granted, it wasn’t the biggest burrito I’ve ever eaten, but it was certainly tasty.
The café is a tiny spot, but somehow manages to fit seating for 20 people without feeling cramped. The service is fast and attentive, and it’s the kind of place travelers meet and hang out.
While I was there, a number of digital nomads were taking advantage of the strong WiFi connection to get some work done. Other guests were students from some of Xela’s many Spanish schools and the ambience encourages conversation without being too rowdy.
Café Lounge comes highly recommended whether you are looking for a cup of coffee or a quick bite for lunch.
