Southern France is a popular spot for camping, and the Verdon river valley attracts many visitors.
At one end, you have Lake Sainte Croix, with a number of campsites dotted around the shoreline, and, at the other, the village of Castellane. It takes only an hour and a half to drive this section of the river, but you will want to stay much longer.
The area around Castellane offers white water rafting and kayaking, as well as access to the charming town. Top sites in the vicinity include Domaine du Verdon and La Ferme de Castellane.
Further down toward the lake you will find Camping Domaine Chasteuil Provence and Camping Huttopia, but the options closest to the gorge itself are Camping le Grand Canyon and Camping Bio Verdon.
If you prefer to be down near the water of Lake Sainte Croix, the best option is Camping le Galetas near the mouth of the gorge, while Camping de l’Aigle, near Aiguines, offers great views.
Whether you are driving a campervan or riding a bicycle, there is plenty of infrastructure for camping in the area. Unless you are traveling in peak season (July–August), there is no real need to book either.
