Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

Salem is the perfect destination for a Halloween getaway, and the town celebrates all month long. Thing ramp up Oct. 24–31; however, when the Salem Festival of the Dead embraces all things scary, spooky and strange.

Things kick off Monday, Oct. 24, with a workshop on speaking to the dead, led by Salem’s official witch, Laurie Cabot, also the high priestess and founder of the Cabot Tradition. The experience continues later on in the week, bringing in more supernatural experts. On Wednesday, join a hoodoo conjurer in the graveyard to connect with your departed relatives and learn how to tap into the power of the dead. Saturday offers a death and rebirth ritual with a high priestess.

On Friday, the biggest event of the week takes place, the Official Salem Witches’ Halloween Ball. Dancing, passed hors d’oeuvres, welcome gifts, psychic readings, ritual drummers and ceremonial dancing all lead up to the big event — the grand ballroom magic circle. Of course, no Halloween party is complete without a costume contest. The year’s theme is Over the Rainbow: The Magical World of Oz. First prize is $1,000. Ball admission is $150.

If you aren’t able to make it the week preceding Halloween, you can enjoy authentic séances nightly or visit the psychic fair and witchcraft expo through the entire month. The expo offers tarot readings, medium sessions, past life readings and more. In addition, vendors offer everything you need to cast your own spell, from crystals and enchanted candles to voodoo dolls and wands.
