Designed to appeal to hardcore marathon runners who enjoy a challenge, the ambitious Hambletonian Marathon invites fitness enthusiasts to shake up their running routine this fall and enjoy a run through a variety of challenging hilly terrain in a historic area.
Spanning a scenic route through apple orchards and farmland amid the colorful change in autumn foliage throughout the Hudson Valley, runners will experience burning quads as they pull out all the stops to tackle this impressive Boston Marathon qualifier across 26.2 tough but fun miles.
In addition to the marathon, the race also includes the Good Time Trotters Relay, consisting of three unequal legs approximately 11.5, 9.8 and 4.9 miles, respectively. Both races follow along the same figure-eight configuration, beginning on Main Street Goshen, extending into the neighboring town of Chester and concluding back in Goshen at the city’s historic horse track.
After pushing themselves, runners are ultimately rewarded with a finish line festival, offering a delicious food tent to participating runners.
The day of the races, all runners and spectators can enjoy ample parking at the Orange County Government Center conveniently close to the start and finish areas. A baggage check will be available, as well as heat sheets, medical professionals on standby and portable toilets located at numerous locations throughout the course.
The Hambletonian race is a fundraising event and proceeds will benefit the following four charities: the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, the Orange County Citizen’s Foundation for improvements to the Heritage Trail, the Eva Fini Fund (supporting research for Rett syndrome) and the Middletown YMCA’s 2015 pool fundraising effort.
