If you’re taking advantage of the current spring shoulder season (mid-April to May), there are certain destinations you should keep in mind for the cheapest airfare possible.
According to new data from Dollar Flight Club, the most affordable destinations to fly into during the spring shoulder season this year include Los Angeles (LAX); Washington, D.C. (IAD); and San Francisco (SFO), with fares to the three destinations starting at $90–150, and average fares at around $300–400.
Flying out of one of the country’s busiest airports? If you’re flying from Atlanta, you should be able to find shoulder season deals to New York (JFK/LGA), New Orleans (MSY) and Punta Cana (PUJ), specifically; if flying from Charlotte (CLT), look to Boston (BOS), Philadelphia (PHL) and Orlando (MCO); if Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), try Vegas (LAS), Denver (DEN) or Mexico City (MEX).
The study also looked at how 2025 shoulder season fares compared to last year’s shoulder season fares, and found this year’s fares are about 3–8 percent lower due to a variety of factors, including airline competition, fuel price fluctuations and airfare sales.
Dollar Flight Club recommends getting the best shoulder season deals possible by setting fare alerts on sites like Dollar Flight Club, Google Flights and Skyscanner, as well as trying to book two to three months in advance.
