After seeing Chelsea Market on Food Network dozens of times, I expected it to be a bit … bigger. However, what Chelsea Market lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality. There are quite a few vendors crammed into one tiny space, but the various shops aren’t hard to navigate, unlike some markets that can be almost unbearably crowded on certain days. The eclectically decorated and fun venue was still bustling with people, but not too many, when I visited on a chilly Saturday evening. I was looking for dinner and would happily see where my nose took me.

I found myself at Friedmans. The setting was cozy enough to be intimate, without being isolating. I ordered the veggie bowl, which came with quinoa, Japanese eggplant, baby bok choy, carrots, bean sprouts, edamame, scallions and a sesame lime dressing. The huge variety of flavors and textures was wonderfully delightful and I was a little disappointed I couldn’t finish all of the large serving. I would gladly order it again. My husband, never one to branch out from his normal favorites, went with the Friedman’s burger. I tried a few of his herbed fries, which were equally tasty.

After dinner, we wandered in and out of a few other shops, but didn’t make any other purchases. I stepped in Posman Books, and felt an immediate need to buy everything in the store, so I left as quickly as I came.

I’ll definitely be back to Chelsea Market the next day I have some leisure time in New York City, eager to try the other tempting dining options.
