Destination weddings make for amazing memories for the bride and groom and the guests. Even if you choose to get hitched close to home, chances are a significant percentage of your guests will be coming in from out of town for the weekend. Make the trip a comfortable one by keeping these tips in mind while choosing a venue.
Does it represent you?
No matter how beautiful the location is, if it doesn’t suit your personality you will be fighting its inherent charms the entire time. Those in search of a laid-back ceremony and reception shouldn’t choose a fancy, restricting hall with a strict eight-course meal and enforceable dress code. And if you are looking for some structure and formality, don’t get married in a beachside hut.
Is it accessible?
This could be anything from elevator availability to making sure there is parking nearby. Think about the guest list. Will there be anyone who can’t make it up the stairs? An out-of-the-way location is quaint, but how will your guests get there? Consider ways to arrange for transit, like renting trolleys. Also consider your guest list and ask yourself if the destination is feasible. Are there plane tickets and hotel rooms that can be purchased for a reasonable amount? Or is the location so exclusive your aunt can’t afford to come?
Have you given your guests plenty of information about the location?
If you favor a ceremony outdoors, be sure to let them know about the terrain so they can wear comfortable shoes and the probable weather so they can bring a smart wrap. You may even want to consider providing bug repellant and fans for those who will be seated in the sun for a length of time.
