Whether you’re traveling in the States or internationally, there are plenty of Christmas events going on in cities around the world. You’re sure to find something no matter where you’re headed this December, but here are a few you might like to put at the top of your list.
Portland’s Festival of Lights
As the largest Christmas choral festival in the world, the Christmas Festival of Lights is home to almost 160 indoor holiday performances. You can find five different concerts each day during the season, located in the chapel, and performances given by regional school and church choirs.
Tivoli Gardens
Tivoli Gardens is a theme park located in Copenhagen, but the property transforms into much more for the Christmas season. Christmas light shows, visits from Father Christmas, a traditional European holiday market, parades and more combine to create an atmosphere laden with holiday spirit.
Santa Claus Village in Lapland
Santa Claus’s Village in Lapland, Finland is about as close as you can get to the North Pole. Rovaniemi, right past the Arctic Circle, has proudly declared itself the hometown of Santa and its citizens are more than happy to play along.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
With carnival-type rides, a Christmas market, ice sculptures, acrobatic performances, an ice rink and more, London’s Hyde Park definitely puts on a show for the holiday season. Entry to the event is free and is open everyday except for Christmas until Jan. 3.
Toronto Christmas Market
The Toronto Christmas Market offers fun activities for both children and adults alike. From gift shopping and beer gardens to caroling competitions and snowman displays, there’s a little bit of everything. Admission is free through the week, and only $5 on weekends.
