If there’s one dessert synonymous with Ohio, it’s the buckeye, a candy resembling its namesake nut, made up of a creamy peanut butter center and a chocolate outer layer. Now, Columbus is helping travelers thoroughly discover just what makes this candy so special with the new Columbus Buckeye Treat Trail.

There are 17 stops along the trail that not only treat travelers to the classic candy, but also candy-inspired concoctions, such as a buckeye milkshake and oversized buckeye cream puffs. The trail comes with a mobile passport you can download and, as you check in and make stops along the trail, you can earn rewards. For example, if you collect four points, you’ll get a t-shirt, while 13 points gets you a candle.

“At Experience Columbus, we love creating trails that give visitors a true taste of our city while promoting the amazing small businesses that call Columbus home,” said Michelle Wilson, senior director of destination services, Experience Columbus. “Our Columbus-Style Pizza Trail and Columbus Distillery Trail are just two examples of our other trails that have been a huge hit. We kept hearing from locals and visitors asking, ‘What about something sweet?’ The Columbus Buckeye Treat Trail is our answer to that. It’s the perfect addition to our existing free, experiential trails.”
