A little over a year ago, a group of Winter X Games and Olympic competitors launched a crowd-funding campaign to develop a one-stop shop for skiinformation. It culminated with the launch of Ski Nation, a mobile app and ski network aimed at providing information for winter sports enthusiasts across North America.
The app’s beauty lies in its ambition. It is the first program that provides information for every ski area on the continent, with resorts, local hills, clubs and regional areas added all the time. The app covers cross-country areas and Nordic jumps as well, though it’s the small community spots that are the bread and butter of Ski Nation. So far they have documented 900 operating ski areas across 40 U.S. states and 11 Canadian provinces.
Ski Nation also features snow and weather conditions pulled from SnoCountry, the non-profit service that provides real-time information for skiers and snowboarders. The app also has another feature similar to Foursquare, where skiers can collect location pins, tracking their ski activity based on their phone’s GPS data.
You can learn more about the Ski Nation at on their website.
