Cotopaxi’s line of lifestyle backpacks is full of alluring options, from smartly styled daypacks to larger backpacks and satchels. The Cotopaxi aesthetic is streamlined, with a sort of modern, urban interpretation of safari style.
The Kpong satchel line is composed of five shoulder bags, each large enough to hold a laptop and other essentials, like books and personal items. The earth-toned colors of the bags are all sharply styled, so you can look comfortably professional with one of these bags at your side.
The canvas material seems sturdy, though it is cotton and nylon, so it’s not fully waterproof. Still, the material is water resistant, so your gear will be safe in a light drizzle. A suede bottom panel adds to the professional feel of the bag.
The bag is constructed with two compartments: a main compartment that has a file organizer and water bottle pocket as well as a padded laptop sleeve big enough to fit a 15-inch monitor. There is also a front flap pocket and an underside zip pocket, all of which are useful for keeping organized during long-haul travel or simply going to work in a city every day.
The top of the satchel is fitted with a small handle for carrying in your hand, as well as a sturdy shoulder strap. Your bag will come with an extra shoulder strap as well, should your original one wear out — a smart addition.
Cotopaxi’s gear is great on its own merits, but adding to the allure is the fact that this is a socially-conscious company. Sales of each item are matched to a charity; with the purchase of a Kpong pack, for example, the company donates to help provide a new building for students at a school in Kpong, Ghana. And the company strives to partner with factories that pay their employees a fair wage. Given this, Cotopaxi’s tagline of “Gear for Good” is on point.
