After the Cubs finished the season with their first World Series win since 1908, sports networks have been buzzing with the impact of this game on sports history. Learn about the rich history behind America’s oldest pastime with a trip to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y.
The museum has been open since 1939 and dedicates itself to honoring baseball legends new and old. It’s filled with momentos like the baseball used for the final out of the inaugural Fall Classic’s in 1903 and Juan Marichal’s cap and glove.
There is also a section of the museum on the first floor called the “Sandlot Kids’ Clubhouse,” which houses a number of children’s books and videos that will keep the kids entertained. However, there are also interactive guides for children to fill out as they go through the museum, almost like a scavenger hunt.
After you’ve had your tour, there are a number of great restaurants serving a variety of cuisines within walking distance from the museum including the Cooperstown Diner, the Toscana Italian Fusion and Grill and Mt. Fuji.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is the ultimate destination for any baseball fan or sports history buff. Even if you’re not a sports person, you’ll have a deeper respect for the game once you step through the door.
