With Jurassic World having made such a big splash this past year a lot of people have found their passion for dinosaurs reignited. How about a trip digging for dino bones on your next vacation?
PaleoAdventures offers dinosaur digs in South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana, where you can sift through the dirt and discover your own fossils. The group conducts professional digs for never-before-seen bones and fossils in the hopes of learning more about these ancient creatures, then hands them over to museums for public consumption.
Occasionally, they find areas suitable for dinosaur digging for the general public. Families with kids 10 and up are able to dig through dirt with provided tools and training for other fossils they can actually keep.
Some of the finds might include triceratops teeth, dinosaur bone fragments, ancient alligator and crocodile teeth as well as plant fossils. While these small ones are all “finders keepers,” if you come across anything too significant, it’ll have to go to a museum. You can, however, purchase T. Rex teeth and Edmontosaurus bones for an additional fee.
It’s a great opportunity to discover and learn more about dinosaurs and what life was like on planet Earth millions of years before we lived here.
