Ever seen people race on water in vessels other than a boat? Witness this special spectacle on Sept. 7 when the unique and annual World Tin Bath Championships in Castletown Harbor on Isle of Man takes place. Located between Ireland and England, the Isle of Man has played host to this quirky event since 1971.

Held by Castletown Ale Drinkers Society, this championship draws thousands of spectators eager to cheer on the races as they brave the waves in tin baths. In addition to this race, the event also features Snake Race, where the most daring try their hands at human-powered flight.

Each year, more than 100 entrants attempt the 400-meter course in strictly regulated tin baths, with many entrants coming from around the world to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime event. Everyone aged 16 and up are invited to participate in the tin bath race, with racing guidelines available here.

Adventurous yourself? You can enter the tin bath race for just £5 and the Snake Race for £20. All proceeds go to local charities.

Isle of Man is easily accessible by ferry from Dublin, Ireland; Belfast, Northern Ireland; and Liverpool, United Kingdom. While exploring Isle of Man, opt for a stay in a self-catered cottage with Island Escapes, available in various sizes for groups large or small.

Sail on a Recently Revamped Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship

At one point, the Royal Caribbean Oasis-class ships were the largest in the world. While that’s not the case any longer (other Royal Caribbean ships have surpassed them), these ships are still pretty impressive — and, with recent renovations, they’re becoming even more so, as can be seen with the revamped Allure of the Seas. Ready to set sail in April 2025 with a bevy of new features, the ship is getting a $100 million makeover.
