For many travelers, it is not enough to stay in the city or keep confined to the resort. Venturing out of the tourist areas and into the local culture is the real joy of traveling, but doing so gives you less of a choice in accommodations. Backpackers and traveling professionals who find themselves hunkering down in a shady area might need a little extra security; this is where the DoorJammer comes in.
The DoorJammer is a portable security device, securing your hotel room door against attempts of forced entry. Standing at just under 5 by 3 inches, the DoorJammer is a compact but sturdy metal device that is portable enough for your suitcase. The lip slides under the door and an adjustable hinge locks it into place, converting any horizontal force down onto the rubberized foot and effectively jamming the door shut.
While users find the device to be tough, there are a few issues regarding its design. Doors that have a high clearance above the floor might not be as secure, and the DoorJammer is meant to be placed on the side that the door opens. Many European hotels have doors that swing outwards, rendering the DoorJammer useless in such cases.
Design flaws aside, when the device is properly secured, it can handle a lot of abuse. Travelers can often become targets of crime when venturing out the tourist areas, so if you ever find yourself resting in a not-so-great part of town, consider the DoorJammer for a little extra protection.
