Home to delicious restaurants, tap rooms and unique eateries, Thurston County, Washington, is a foodie heaven. Comprising Olympia, Lacey, Turnwater, Yelm, Rainier, Tenino, Grand Mound, Rochester and Bucoda, anywhere you turn, you’re sure to find an array of fine-dining restaurants, food trucks, cafés and breweries to fill your stomach and heart.
Fresh Seafood
There’s no shortage of fresh seafood spots around the county. Chelsea Farms Oyster Bar, created by second-generation shellfish farmers, serves fresh and locally sourced shellfish, while The Olympia Oyster House welcomes guests to dine within the same building native Olympia Oysters were culled in 1859.
International Cuisine
Dine across the world without leaving the country. At Curry Corner, experience the diverse flavors of India, accompanied by quality service and a wide selection of dishes. Don Juan’s Mexican Kitchen is a family-operated restaurant serving authentic Mexican cuisine, while Hotstone Authentic Korean features dishes with tofu, as well as delicious soups and bubble tea. Head to Jerk An’Tingz for tasty Jamaican food featuring various herbs and spices or stop by Rush In Dumplings to enjoy classic Russian comfort food. Got a sweet tooth? Don’t forget to hit up Left Bank Pastry, a French patisserie with some of the region’s best croissants, brioche and pastries, as well as kouign amann and canelé.
Food on the Go
Food trucks are the craze these days, and for good reason. Thurston County boasts a wide variety of food trucks serving all sorts of fare, from South Indian-American cuisine like curries, wraps and salads at Akashic Food Trailer to authentic Venezuelan delicacies at Arepa Latin Street Food. In Olympia’s Westside neighborhood, you’ll find Olympita Food Truck, serving Middle Eastern street food like shawarma, falafel and hummus. Fans of brunch can’t miss Honeycuspe, where sweet and savory waffles and coffee await.
Brews and Coffee Galore
Enjoy a coffee, craft brew or fresh wine at any number of locally owned and sourced establishments. Consider Ebony & Ivory Coffee, a modern coffee shop, or visit The Shiplap Shop & Coffee House to enjoy handcrafted espresso drinks and baked goods while shopping consigned items from more than 100 local artisans. Beer lovers must make time to try local brews at Axis Meads, The Cider Barrel, Heritage Distilling Company and Talking Cedar Brewery & Distillery, among many others. And at Swing Wine Bar, enjoy more than 30 wines by the glass and 200 bottle selections on the outdoor patio overlooking Capitol Lake.
