First-aid kits are a staple in any traveler’s bag, but the contents are changing. With a trend for more holistic remedies, essential oils are replacing many chemicals and pills. We’re taking a look at the three best oils to bring with you so you still have room for your band-aids.
Lavender oil
This cure-all is your best friend for traveling. Use a few drops on aching muscles during long bus rides or have it handy for immediate relief from burns. It also has exceptional healing properties, so using lavender oil will help scabs heal from those mosquito bites you just couldn’t help but scratch.
Peppermint oil
Getting a cold while traveling is the worst, so having peppermint oil around to help with congestion will be a lifesaver. Either dab a drop under your cheekbones, near your nasal passage, to relieve a sinus headache or simply inhale the fragrance to temporarily clear congestion and soothe a sore throat.
Tea tree oil
Infections are nothing to mess with, especially if you’re a long bus ride away from a somewhat sanitary facility. Having tea tree oil in your pack is your best topical defense against a wound turning into an infection, as it has antiseptic and antifungal properties. It’s also used as a remedy for lice, ticks, ringworm and a host of other discomforts found during adventure travel.
