The Cuban capital has seen a flourishing of its culinary scene in the past few years, and Esto No Es Un Café is a noteworthy member of the new wave.
Celebrated chef Jenrrys Pérez Marrero has picked up awards for his work at the restaurant, and the dedication of the whole team is plain to see. The dishes are inspired by famous figures from contemporary art, take the “Pollo Pollock” for example, and served with great attention to detail.
The dishes use high-quality ingredients, which is enough to mark Esto No Es Un Café out from much of the competition in Havana. In fact the food would be praiseworthy if it were served in any of the world’s major culinary capitals, let alone in a country still struggling to import many items due to the U.S. economic blockade.
While the kitchen shows off its creativity, with some dishes served in urinals, the interior designer is apparently no slouch either. With tasteful prints and a relaxed atmosphere, Esto No Es Un Café is the perfect spot to escape the hustle and bustle of Havana Vieja on a hot afternoon.
The restaurant is found right by the cathedral in a small lane filled with other restaurants. Don’t be tempted to follow any of the touts to a different place, or you will miss out on the amazing food and cocktails on offer at Esto No Es Un Café!
A meal for two with cocktails came to $40.
