Feel at Home
Five-star hotels that are havens of luxury and sophistication, urban hotels with swimming pools (The Madrid EDITION), hotels in palaces (Palacio de los Duques Gran Meliá), boutique hotels, hotels that have rooftop bars with 360-degree views of the city (Hotel Montera Madrid, Curio Collection by Hilton), hotels with music (UMusic Hotel Madrid), hotels with private gardens (Rosewood Villa Magna) … these are just a few examples of the unique services hotels in Madrid offer. Wherever you choose to stay, you’ll feel at home right from the start and you’ll receive the warmest possible welcome.
Many more hotel openings are coming soon, confirming that Madrid has become a five-star destination. Be sure to keep Brach Hotel on your radar. The Evok hotel chain is set to open the luxury establishment at No. 20 Gran Vía avenue, in a 5,000-square-metre building with seven floors and a fantastic design by Philippe Starck.
Other major firms will also be opening first-rate spaces, reaffirming Madrid’s status as the European capital of tourism excellence. The Metrópolis Building will house a boutique hotel, spa, private club and several restaurants. Further additions this year will include Nobu Hotel Madrid, owned by the hotel group founded by Robert De Niro, Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa and producer Meir Teper.
Experience Local Traditions
Madrid is one of the most sociable cities in the world, and you’ll realize this as soon as you arrive. Its vibrant atmosphere buzzes with cheer and it’s incredibly easy to immerse yourself in Madrid’s way of life and enjoy local customs like sitting at a terraza (outdoor seating at a bar or restaurant); walking around the city’s parks and gardens; or making a Sunday morning visit to El Rastro, Madrid’s most popular outdoor flea market.
Design a Customized Cultural Experience
We suggest you start at one of the Spanish capital’s greatest treasures: Paseo del Prado and El Retiro Park, now a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Cultural Landscape Category. You’ll be able to enjoy not just one but three of Madrid’s top galleries — Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and Reina Sofía Museum — as well as other historical and architectural gems like Royal Botanical Gardens, Royal Spanish Language Academy, National Museum of Decorative Arts and Royal Astronomical Observatory.
Madrid’s cultural offerings also include other, less well-known places such as Sorolla, Lázaro Galdiano and Lope de Vega house-museums and Museum of Romanticism.
Eating in a Market
Finally, if you want to experience Madrid’s gastronomy in all its breadth, try visiting its markets. You will find traditional cuisine, tapas, avant-garde dishes and cuisines from around the world. In addition to the famous San Miguel Market, visit San Antón Market in the Chueca neighborhood or Vallehermoso Market in Argüelles, both full of culinary proposals and a lively atmosphere, especially on weekends.
Dine to Music
At dinner time, one of the most entertaining and social things you can do is make a reservation at an establishment that combines gastronomy with music. A growing number of venues in Madrid allow you to enjoy first-rate set menus as well as live music.
If you like flamenco, you’ll want to check out the program at Corral de la Morería, which, in addition to shows by the world’s top artists, offers fine-dining set menus in two different spaces, one of which has been awarded a Michelin star. Other options include Tablao de la Villa, whose flamenco experience is complemented by a restaurant that serves traditional Spanish cuisine, and Las Carboneras, which brings together the best contemporary flamenco and culinary offerings with creative touches.
Nightlife: Madrid at Sunset
They say Madrid is a city that never sleeps. They also say its night is mythical and, at sunset, it becomes one of the most lively capitals in the world. If you want to discover it and be the star of dance or karaoke, live the magic of flamenco, the spark of a musical or toast with a signature cocktail with 360-degree views or in a clandestine space, let yourself be carried away by your nocturnal side and choose your rhythm.
