When one thinks of crackling fireplaces, fondue fountains and crisp Champagne, they might dream of being in a cozy European mountainside chalet. But this experience can actually be had in Western Pennsylvania. While physically in Pittsburgh, visitors will feel like they’re in Mont Blanc, Saint Moritz and Verbier at Hyeholde restaurant.
Hyeholde originally opened in 1937, serving French-inspired cuisine rooted in tradition. Beginning Jan. 9, the restaurant transforms its original carriage house into Hyeholde Winter Chalet, intimate at only 10 tables. The chalet will feature a roaring fireplace, blankets and a menu of fare fitting for the setting.
Available for a limited run of dates, menu items will include fondues, smoked halibut chowder, charcuteries and local cheese boards, venison carpaccio bruschetta, oysters, and much more. A full beverage menu boasts favorites like the Chocolate Rum Espresso Martini and the Smoked Olive Martini, as well as creative non-alcoholic options for Dry January.
Reservations for the exclusive experience open Jan. 3, 2025.
Hyeholde recently passed to Chef Chris O’Brien, executive chef at the restaurant in 1997 before leaving and returning in 2023 to buy the establishment. Set on 4 acres, Hyeholde sustainably sources produce from its land. Expect more Chef’s Tables, culinary classes and community events in 2025.
There’s plenty else on offer in Pittsburgh, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of The Andy Warhol Museum in 2024. Pittsburgh International Airport is set to complete its $1.57 billion renovation in 2025.
