Trains have become increasingly expensive throughout Europe, so zipping around the continent on a EuroRail pass isn’t as budget friendly as it once was. Thankfully, there are plenty of other ways to find cheap transportation when traveling through Europe.

Using Buses to Travel in Europe

There are countless bus companies throughout Europe, many offering fantastic deals, even on longer distances. Megabus is one company to look into for travel in the United Kingdom. Busabout just might be the cheaper solution to the EuroRail pass. The buses, used mostly by backpackers, travel along set routes. For journeys in and out of Budapest, you can’t beat OrangeWays. Student Agency Bus is another high-quality option.

Train Travel in Europe

Wait, didn’t we just say that using train transportation in Europe is expensive? Well, it can be, and it can also be incredibly affordable. Local trains are often affordable, especially in countries throughout Eastern Europe. You’ll need to do your research, and Seat 61 is an excellent resource to begin with.

Budget Airlines for Traveling in Europe

You can find some jaw-dropping deals on air travel in Europe. RyanAir is one of the most well-known budget carriers, but also look into EasyJet, Transavia and others. Just be sure you understand the rules fully, because these companies make their money when customers don’t know about a fee. Always remember to account for checked and carry-on bag fees, too. They can make even the most inexpensive ticket quite pricey.
