Forest Fenn is a Santa Fe art collector who hid a box of treasure worth $2 million somewhere north of Santa Fe, N.M. Now it’s up to you to find it.
The idea came to Fenn in 1988 when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. “It’s such a visual sight. Emeralds and rubies and diamonds and sapphires and gold and antiques and jade,” Fenn said.
“If I was standing where the treasure chest is, I’d see trees, I’d see mountains, I’d see animals. I’d smell wonderful smells of pine needles or pinon nuts, sage brush. And I knew the treasure chest is wet.”
His poem, The Thrill of the Chase is said to contain nine clues that if followed precisely will lead to the treasure. We also know the treasure is hidden higher than 5,000 feet above sea level, is not associated with any building or structure, is not in a graveyard and is in either Montana, Wyoming, Colorado or New Mexico.
Dal Neitzel is a diehard treasure hunter who keeps tabs on his search at his blog. If you’re thinking about taking some time to go treasure hunting yourself, Dal’s blog is a resource filled with vital clues and information to help you along.
As of writing, the treasure has not been found. Get out there!
