Tips / Travel

While tour guides are not the focus of one’s adventures, they are largely the lens through which these adventures are experienced. Often, a tour guide can make or break a daytrip or journey to an unknown place. For this reason, it is important travelers take time to find the right guide.

Do Your Research

Tour guides should do more than simply talk about the scenery. You will want to set yourself up with a guide that is not only interested in the tour, but in you. The best tourists will ask you about your interests and what you hope to get out of the tour. This way they can adjust their style and even perhaps the itinerary to suit your needs. The best way to find out what a particular tour guide or tourist agency is like is by looking up reviews online.

Try To Find A Legitimate Tourist Agency

When you set yourself up with a tour guide you find offering his services on the street or near a tourist destination, there’s no telling what he may be like. He could be great, giving you an unadulterated, authentic perspective of the area. He could also be an unenthusiastic bore, only interested in your money. Using a legitimate tourist agency eliminates this variable.

Sometimes You Are Your Own Best Tour Guide

Unless you are in the jungles of the Congo, or deep in the Australia outback, tour guides are not always necessary. Sometimes finding your way around a city or landscape on your own can be a more rewarding experience.
