Five Common Travel Items You Don’t Really Need

Tips / Travel

Many travel brochures will insist vacationers must bring certain items along with them on their trip. They claim without these products and devices, vacationers will be lost in translation and in dire trouble. While sometimes these items can be of use, often they take up vital space in suitcases and simply get in the way. Below are a few items travelers should leave at home.

Neck Pillows

Neck pillows are bulky and become one more thing travelers need to remember each time they get up and move around the airport. Moreover, many airlines come equipped with their own pillows that are much more comfortable than those orange rings.

Sandals

While some beaches are rocky, most are smooth and can be traversed barefoot. Sandals are not ideal for walking around on pavement or in the wilderness either — they often lead to blisters.

Guidebooks

Guidebooks can be purchased at nearly any bodega, hotel or tourist kiosk at your destination. Save room in your suitcase and leave them at home.

Excessive Electronics

Sometimes, it is hard for travelers to detach themselves from their essential electronics — MP3 players, phones, tablets and computers — however, doing so will allow them to truly experience the world around them untainted.

Towels

Towels can be found at any hotel, motel or hostel in the world, as well as any pool one might visit. The only scenario that might require a personal towel would be a visit to the beach, and most areas have local shops that sell beach equipment.
