The blue domes of Santorini, the ancient remains of Rhodes and Naxos and the crystal clear waters of Greece’s islands encompass an idyllic honeymoon destination. Many newly married couples select the Greek Islands for their just-married getaway, but not all couples pack appropriately. Before you take off on your Greek honeymoon, don’t forget these five items in your suitcase.
A large brimmed sun hat
The sun can be quite intense on the Greek Islands. Rather than coming home looking like a lobster or worse, ruining all of your honeymoon photos looking like a tomato, a sun hat is essential on a Greek island honeymoon. A large-brimmed sun hat will keep that intense Greek sun away from your face and keep sunburns at bay.
Sarong
A Greek island honeymoon features a great deal of beach bumming. A sarong proves useful as it can function as a swim cover-up and also a beach towel for an impromptu picnic. A simple sarong also works well in Greece when you are need of a little shawl while on all of those ferries.
Dramamine
What the idyllic articles about a Greek island honeymoon don’t tell you is that you will most likely be taking ferries from island to island. While this might sound romantic, the Greek island ferries can be bumpy, if not downright sea sickening. If you are prone to seasickness, you want to be sure to pack some motion sickness relief like Dramamine for those rough seas from island to island.
Toilet Paper
Again, toilet paper might not seem like the most romantic items to pack for your honeymoon but on the Greek Islands, you will be glad to have it. With water scarce on the islands, most popular islands like Santorini require you to not flush your toilet paper down the drain but rather throw it away. While this practice is something you can get used to, some public toilets might lack toilet paper. Bringing it with you at all times and to all bathrooms will be a lifesaver.
Cash
Most honeymoons revolve around throwing down a little plastic to pay for everyday items like gas, hotel nights and food. However, in Greece, most merchants and vendors prefer you use cash, especially after the financial crisis. Also, as you might be on small islands, there could only be one ATM. If it isn’t working, you could be out of luck. Honeymooners should always have plenty of cash on them on a Greek island adventure.
