Flourish is a travel magazine focused on outdoor living, culture and sustainability; it successfully raised funds for its third issue.
The team prefers to think of it as a journal rather than a magazine, with a feeling of longevity throwaway publications can’t match. Founder Lucy Saunders, a designer and photographer, puts her own money into the running cost of the magazine, and needed public support to get it printed. The team is rounded out by sub editor Harry Hartley and a rotating cast of contributors.
Volume 3 focuses on Scandinavia and includes accounts of trips to Iceland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. It’s a great mixture of text and photos, and there are lots of different features, from personal tales and tips to food stories and tales of adventure.
The recent Kickstarter campaign acted as a pre-ordering service for the magazine, and a donation of £10 ($12) will get you an exquisite, 120-page magazine. While the COVID-19 pandemic delayed publication a bit, as of May 5, the issue was on its way to backers.
Find out more about the project on the Flourish website, where you can also buy the two previous issues as well as a range of merchandise.
