It’s easy to cave in and hit the nearest fast-food joint while you’re traveling. After all, who has time to cook when there’s so much to see? It you want to keepyour self revitalized so you can fit in everything on your overflowing itinerary, be sure to pack these foods that’ll help you refuel.
Apples
Apples are your new best friend when it comes to refueling. They’re packed with calories, carbs and vitamins that will give you sustained energy boosts throughout the day. Since they take longer to digest than most foods, the energy lasts longer than, say, a cup of coffee.
Trail Mix
The mix of fiber and protein you’ll find in a bag of trail mix will help you keep moving throughout a long day. The protein will slow down your metabolism, which sucks your energy. For full effect, ditch the bags sold in grocery stores packed with excess sugars and throw together your own. Pistachios, almonds and peanuts mixed with dried fruits are a great choice.
Guarana
You might not of heard of these before, but guaranas are small, red fruits most commonly used in energy drinks. The seeds of these guys are the richest natural forms of caffeine and provide 2.5 times the boost of coffee.
Quinoa
One of the best and safest grains available, quinoa also packs a lot of energy. It’s rich in protein, methionine and lysine that make it incredibly useful for repairing muscle and has enough carbs to provide lasting energy throughout the day. We recommend churning out some quinoa protein bars and snacks to take with you on your trip.
Yogurt
Yogurt is easy to take with you, as long as you can keep it cool, and contains large doses of magnesium, which helps your body release energy. It’s great for a quick pick-me-up when you’re feeling low.
