Solo travelers have no problem booking a single one-way ticket or joining a tour in a new city, but some adventures may seem out of reach for the unaccompanied explorer. In recent years, cruise lines increased their efforts to make the seas tempting for every type of traveler.
Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines boasts a warm, sociable atmosphere along with single-occupancy cabins. Departures leave from all over the United Kingdom and possible destinations include the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway and a grand Around the World option. Single cruises start at £56.00 (around $92.00) per night.
Norwegian Cruise Line offers the Epic ship, the first to be designed with the solo traveler in mind. Each single cabin has a full-sized bed and comes with access to a private lounge complete with bar and televisions. The ship sails to the Caribbean, the United States and Europe. Prices range from $500 for three-day cruises to upwards of $2,500 for cruises longer than 15 days.
P&O’s single cabins abroad the Azura are equipped to pamper. Each room has a vanity area, private bathroom and in-room coffee station. Once sailors have relaxed with their complementary pamper pack they can mingle with the other guests in the open-air cinema, on the dance floor or over dinner. The Azura sails to the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Baltic. Single cabins start at £279.00 (around $459.00) per night.
Despite the single supplement, Carnival’s lowest price guarantee still applies to solo travelers. With several ships offering single interior and balcony cabins, stops at both popular and unique destinations and land expeditions that allows guests to socialize, it’ll be hard to not have a good time. Prices range from $33.00 a night to $63.00 a night depending on destination and length of trip.
