Combine ghostly, Halloween-themed events with fun drinks and activities this fall in the United States’ oldest city. St. Augustine’s long history makes it a hub for spooky stories, ghost encounters and strange histories. Here are some upcoming events in St. Augustine this October:
Ghost with the Most Cocktail Tour
This fun, 2.5-hour tour visits four local venues, allowing guests to soak in the history of each space and try each venue’s delicious concoctions. Fully guided, this tour explores the city in a unique way, with the guide explaining different creepy details on route to each venue. The tour guide? A dead guy! Tours start at 7 p.m. on select Fridays and Saturdays in October and are $85 per person.
The Ximenez-Fatio House Presents: Mourning and Mortality – A Century of Death
Embark on this candlelight tour through a 223-year-old house to learn about 19th-century life in St. Augustine. From medicine to mourning rituals to last rites, this tour covers some of the most interesting aspects of peoples’ lives long ago. The tour also covers Victorian Spiritualism, Afro-Caribbean practices and how illnesses were treated with at-home remedies from the house’s colonial garden and original 1798 kitchen. Tickets are $15 per person and take place every Friday and Saturday in October at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
A Night at the Castle – The Ghosts of St. Augustine’s Past: A Fancy Affair
On Oct. 27, don your best fancy costume and head to Ripley’s Believe it Or Not! Castle Warden. The event encourages guests to engage in its five centuries of history through period-specific costume events. From the Gilded Age to the Roaring 20s to colonial times to rococo, guests can draw inspiration for any of these eras for a costume. Small bites, dessert, cocktails and music are included. Tickets are $85 per person.
Colonial Quarter Halloween Spooktacular
Running Oct. 28–30, the St. Augustine Swashbucklers at the Colonial Quarter invite guests to venture through haunted grounds and past the skeleton ghost ship. The Colonial Quarter’s extensive history makes it the perfect breeding ground for spirits. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
