No road trip is complete without the iPhone. You’ve got your tunes, maps, reservations and more stored into your phone, but sometimes it’s easy to forget to keep both your eyes on the road. Some states are even enacting laws to ban cellphone use without a hands-free device, so to stay safe on the road, follow these tips to operate your phone with both hands on the wheel.
Set up your car’s Bluetooth
If you’re driving a modern car, there’s a good chance it has Bluetooth connectivity for calling, and maybe even music. Apple has extensive pairing options available on their iPhones, and if your car has Bluetooth, it will also have dedicated buttons and voice commands for making calls and operating your music app. Check with your vehicle’s manual to learn how to set this up and not have to take a hand off the wheel.
Get a Bluetooth kit
Older car models will not feature Bluetooth, or even an auxiliary jack for your phone’s headphone cable. Luckily there are plenty of Bluetooth receivers that will retrofit your car with hands-free capability. Not all receivers are built the same, as you need one with a high sound quality to hear and a good microphone to be heard.
The iClever Himbox HB01 has both of these, as well as music controls. The device plays through the car’s auxiliary port, and is powered by an USB-car adapter. A similar option is the Kinivo BTC455, which includes multiple-phone compatibility, allowing you to pair two phones at the same time and reconnect them automatically. If you’re looking for a Bluetooth speaker, the Motorola Roadster 2 is considered to be one of the best available, packed with features and a high-quality sound that could pass as an FM transmitter for your music.
