Sometimes you’re just nowhere near a proper Oktoberfest celebration, but thanks to the internet, that really doesn’t need to stop you. But you’re going to need a few things to pull it off properly. Now, home is hardly ideal, but just in case we’ve got you covered.
Firstly, lets not be silly. You need beer; you need lots of beer. You need a lot of beer and then you need to tell your friends who are to be in attendance to bring beer. Obviously, you should really try to limit yourself to something made in Munich, but certainly Bavaria will do the trick. However, with the rise in craft beers across the States and the world, many brewers specifically make a seasonal Oktoberfest offering. Not surprisingly, the Best Damn Beer Shop is a pretty good start and often ships for free if you buy enough.
You need mugs for others and a stein for yourself. They cost a bit of money, so I doubt you’ll be buying a proper stein for everyone. However, if you’re feeling generous, get in there.
You’re going to need to look the part and there is traditional clothing based on your gender. Considering what you’ve just paid for that stein, eBay provides costume options surprisingly cheap and Oktoberfest is annual.
Lastly, simply buy bratwursts, sauerkraut and make potato salad. Buy good brats, but if a larger party is in order never be afraid of Wisconsin’s Johnsonville brand.
And lastly, your party must be replete with as much blue and white as possible, including plastic tablecloths for all that spilled beer.
