Philadelphia’s eclectic Fishtown neighborhood gets a new resident on Aug. 7: Hotel Anna & Bel, boasting 50 guestrooms between a main building and an annexed adjoining townhouse, a Mediterranean restaurant, a secluded pool courtyard, and wellness amenities.
“Hotel Anna & Bel is a cohesive representation of all that Fishtown has to offer, bringing together traditions of the past with the realized creativity of the area,” said Dor Berkovitz, co-founder and managing partner, Foyer Project. “As our inaugural project, we wanted to create an urban retreat that sets the tone for the neighborhood for any guests who are traveling in.”
The bones of the hotel had their beginnings as a mansion house in the 18th century before being converted into Penn Asylum for Indigent Widows and Single Women in 1858. In the 1900s, it became co-ed as Penn Home, a retirement home. After closing during the pandemic, Foyer Project reimagined the space to become Hotel Anna & Bel.
Much of the original character of the space remains intact, including the original grand staircase. At the heart of the property is a guest-exclusive courtyard with a heated outdoor plunge pool. Caletta, a sister lounge to the on-site restaurant, overlooks the courtyard and features live music, signature cocktails and small bites. A poolside menu is also available. Off the living room-like extended lobby sits the wellness room, bookable for private treatments selected from a list of local neighborhood practitioners. There is also a lower-level fitness center and a yoga and meditation deck.
Accommodations vary in size from studios to two-bedroom living spaces. Amenities include Natural Dreams mattresses, Bellino linens, NorviGroup Norsk duvet and pillows, Printfresh robes, Frette towels, Le Labo bath amenities, Nespresso machines, and more. An amenity closet on each floor offers personal essentials guests may need.
Bastia, on the ground floor, is a café by day and a Mediterranean restaurant from Chef-Partner Tyler Akin by night with a vegetable-forward, seafood-driven menu.
