Houston Avenue is an upscale urban restaurant located in the heart of downtown Toronto that aims to please even the pickiest of appetites.
From my visit to Houston, I ordered the lobster tacos from their fixed-pricemenu. The meal starts with your choice of the chef’s house salad or soup of the day. The lobster tacos come filled with lobster, shrimp, avocado, onion, red cabbage, spicy mayo and a side of fries. This meal was $18, which is reasonable given the amount and quality of food received.
The lobster tacos were a fresh, tasty meal for lunch. Perhaps the most surprising portion of the meal to me however, was the side of fries it came with. While it’s hard to make fries taste bad, Houston certainly stood out for theirs, arguably some of the best I’ve had at any restaurant, regardless of price.
The only downside to the experience was the service. The server, while nice, made a cardinal mistake in restaurant terms. The food was brought out to my guest and myself at different times. While this isn’t a huge issue, it is a no-no in the industry, and can make for some awkward feelings for guests at the restaurant, wondering whether they should dig in or wait for the rest of the meal.
With that said, that was a minor issue to me, and I enjoyed my experience at Houston Avenue, so don’t let that small issue prevent you from checking out this classy and reasonably priced restaurant.
