How to Choose the Right Cake

How To's

A wedding cake serves as the centerpiece for your reception, so it’s important to put a lot of thought into what you want it to look like. Even more important is making sure it tastes great! Here are some ideas to help you choose the right cake for your dream wedding.

Wait Until You’ve Chosen Your Theme

You’ll want your cake to match your decoration and possibly your dress, so hold off on choosing one until you’ve got the essentials taken care of. You wouldn’t want a beach-themed cake to show up at your winter wonderland wedding, after all.

Taste, Then Taste Again

It’s okay to shop around a lot and make sure you find something both you and the groom will enjoy. Agree on your favorite flavor beforehand and nix any that one or both of you just can’t stand. You’re going to be eating this in front of a lot of people, and possibly smashing it in each other’s faces, so you don’t want to vomit all over your dress due to tapioca-flavored cake.

Don’t Be Afraid to Save

At the end of the day, a cake is just a cake. It’s not something you’ll be able to hold onto and look at after the wedding is over, so don’t spend more money on it than necessary. There are plenty of bakers who can pull off an incredible design on a budget.

Keep Location in Mind

Are you having your wedding in a burning, tropical paradise? If so, you might want avoid merengue or buttercream. You know, unless you fancy a melted cake. Keep the weather of your location in mind when choosing your ingredients or else your cake could be your wedding day disaster.

Give the Groom a Voice

Okay, ladies, this one is for you. We know it’s your big day, but give your future hubby a say in this thing, too. He’ll appreciate the gesture and, if he’s a gentleman, he won’t ask for anything too ridiculous.
