Get Outside
Snow isn’t just for shoveling. While Michigan might not be known as a skiing and snowboarding hot spot, you can enjoy more than 20 downhill runs and a terrain park at Cannonsburg Ski Area. If that’s a little too high-speed for your tastes, try a low-key snowshoe excursion at Blandford Nature Center, which encompasses more than 250 acres of land and is home to more than 40 rehabilitated, native Michigan animals.

Take in the Arts
If you’re visiting Jan. 5–March 6, you can attend the World of Winter art festival. This months-long event takes over downtown Grand Rapids and features more than 50 ice sculptures and 40 art installations. The event is the largest winter festival in the entire Midwest.
