Located on Budapest’s famous Våci Utca, a commercial thoroughfare and popular tourist hub, is the world famous Icebar Budapest. From the outside, the structure looks like any ordinary city building, but hidden inside is a frozen bar and nightclub. Visitors will be greeted at the entrance by two ceramic penguin guards before making their way into the icy party.
Once inside, they can experience the frigid -5 degrees C (23 degrees F) temperature. At the Icebar, literally every fixture and piece of furniture is made of frozen water. The bar counter, chairs, tables — even the glass for each frosty beer or vodka cocktail is crafted from ice.
Visitors need not worry about being cold and uncomfortable, however. The Icebar Budapest provides each patron with a thermal poncho and gloves so they can stay toasty.
The bar features an assortment of beautiful, handcrafted ice sculptures, from a laughing Santa Claus to an enormous prone Lion, all assembled around the ushanka-wearing DJ at his turntable.
To keep the bar from melting, only a set number of people are allowed in at a time. For this reason, travelers looking to journey to the Icebar should make a reservation in advance.
