Grand Velas Riviera Maya offers a new culinary experience that blends Mexico’s traditions of artisanal chocolate and mezcal. The resort’s sommelier leads the tasting journey, which includes a curated selection of dark and white Mexican artisanal chocolates from Campeche on the Gulf Coast and mezcal. Cacao was declared “food of the gods” in ancient indigenous Mayan and Aztec civilizations, and mezcal, from the agave plants, comes with centuries of Mexican heritage.

The Mezcal and Chocolate Pairing menu includes:

• Mezcal Gin MG x Passion Fruit Infused White Chocolate: The sweetness from the wild Cenizo agave complements the tropical notes of the passion fruit.
• Mezcal Montelobos Joven Ensamble x Foie Gras Infused Dark Chocolate: Smoky notes of nutmeg and pink pepper in the mezcal contrast with the foie gras richness.
• Contraluz Cristalino Mezcal x Raspberry Infused Dark Chocolate: This mezcal matures for about six months in charred American oak barrels and is filtered through activated charcoal, so its citrus and floral notes blend with the acidity of the raspberry.
• Gracias a Dios Reposado x Mole Infused Dark Chocolate: The mezcal’s smoke and herbaceous flavors harmonize with the chiles and dried fruits in the mole.

The weekly Mezcal and Chocolate Pairing Session is included in the resort’s all-inclusive rate, which starts at $617 per adult per night, based on double occupancy.
