Tired of having to pay for a carry-on? Beginning Sept. 6, JetBlue will allow basic-economy Blue Basic passengers one free carry-on bag (space permitting) in addition to a small personal item. Currently, the airline’s Blue Basic fare includes only a free personal item, with any carry-on bags brought to the gate checked with a $65 fee for a first- or second-checked bag.
“Carry-on bags are an important part of travel to customers, and when presented with a choice between JetBlue’s award-winning service and another carrier’s basic offering, we want JetBlue to be the easy winner,” said Marty St. George, president, JetBlue. “We’re always looking for ways to evolve our offering in response to customer preferences. This is a win-win as we improve the customer experience and keep JetBlue competitive in our industry.”
The only exceptions for these fees currently include Mosaic loyalty program members, trans-Atlantic travelers, customers combining a Blue Basic fare with an Even More Space seat, active U.S. military and unaccompanied minors.
JetBlue’s basic-economy fare, Blue Basic passengers board last, use economy check-in line and sit in economy-class seats. Unlike other seats for JetBlue, Blue Basic fares incur a fee if you change or cancel your ticket.
