Get ready to have your very own version of Wall-E. Jibo, the world’s first family robot and personal robot assistant, will be released later this year.
This little guy looks like something straight out of a Pixar film. It’s a small, round robot that uses artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze your facial expressions and behaviors and communicate with you in an intelligent manner. Sounds amazing, right?
Jibo is capable of reading and acting out children’s fairytales, taking photos and videos and allowing you to Skype with your friends through his face. The best part is the more you use him, the more he learns. He’ll eventually be capable of holding intelligent conversations with you about your day.
The potential uses for Jibo seem endless. If you feel like taking him on your travels with you he could act as a friend when you’re feeling homesick. He can take pictures and video for you or keep you connected with friends and family back home.
You can also leave him behind and use him to help provide security for your house. Jibo can be programmed to detect sounds, then swivel his head in the direction of the sound and take immediate photo and video evidence of what’s going on. The developers hope to make Jibo compatible with a range of smart technology available so you can use Jibo to remotely control light switches and locks in your home.
The first set of Jibo robots will ship later this year but there’s still time for more improvements. Who knows what this little guy will be capable of before his creators are done!

This year, the Northern Lights put on quite the display across Ireland, but don’t think these lights are the only thing you can see in Ireland. In fact, many spots across the country provide some of the best opportunities to stargaze thanks to low levels of light pollution. Ireland has three International Dark Sky Parks and even more spots which, although not accredited, are worth a visit for anyone wishing to see the sky in its unfiltered form.
